The Bible is the dynamic word of God written … inspired and authoritative … the only rule for faith and life. It’s so much more than a rulebook.

In the pages of scripture we find stories of kings and paupers, of dangerous liaisons and power plays, of miraculous occurrences and simple obedience, of law and grace, of God’s unfathomable love for humankind and the redemptive, life-affirming work of Jesus Christ. We follow the narratives of confused and mistake-prone people and discover God’s forgiving, claiming acts.

As we cogitate on scripture, we find spiritual nutrition for daily life.

Some folks encourage the equivalent of speed-reading God’s Word – following a “Through the Bible in a Year” plan, for example – but we advocate spending time with scripture … slowing down to listen with the heart to all that unfolds in our reading.

In keeping with that approach, CommPres encourages members and guests to follow the “CommPres Lectionary” – reading digestible amounts of scripture each day (usually one chapter per day) and following the reading in context. Launched in February 2003 with “The 28 Day Challenge” to read the 28 chapters of Matthew during the 28 days of February, CommPres has offered a schedule of Bible readings for each day ever since.

Reading scripture deliberately and thoughtfully is the best way to treasure God’s Word in our hearts … and to discover light on our right-now paths.
