 A Note from the Senior Pastor Minimize

As I pontificated on one of my usual spiritual tirades my companion said, “Pastor you’re preaching to the choir on this one.” Indicating that he was already in full agreement with what I was saying. Which caused me to reflect: how did the choir become associated with superior spiritual awareness? Is it because they sit so close to the preacher that they, by osmosis, receive the theology that is uttered?
Maybe it is because the choir is supposed to be in worship every Sunday, thus by virtue of their regular role in church they have accumulated enough time to have thoroughly processed the message of the faith. Or could it be that the choir has a second source of spiritual input besides the Bible…The Hymnal? Week after week the choir focuses on the words that move the congregation into the presence of God via worship. Their souls get deepened because they engage in the exercise of processing the faith into poetic and tangible aspects of life. Furthermore, the Bible tells us that God dwells within the praises of His people! One fact is certain, our choir is a catalyst in our experience and enjoyment of God! But you already know that and I am, once again, preaching to the choir!

▲ Saying What We Believe                                   Nancy Graham Ogne
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord;
who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into hell;
The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven
and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen
